Biden said the U.S. would continue the strikes, even though so far they have not stopped the Houthis from continuing to harass commercial and military vessels. Saree said the attack took place in the Gulf of Aden, the waters just south of Yemen. The Pentagon was not immediately able to confirm the strikes but has cautioned that it anticipates the Houthis will continue their attacks. On Wednesday the U.S. military fired another wave of ship- and submarine-launch missile strikes against 14 Houthi-controlled sites. JERUSALEM (AP) — Houthi rebels fired a missile, striking a U.S.-owned ship Monday just off the coast of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden, less than a day after they launched an anti-ship cruise missile toward an American destroyer in the Red Sea. The attack on the Gibraltar Eagle, later claimed by the Houthis, further escalates tensions gripping the Red Sea after American-led strikes on the rebels. Since November, the rebels have repeatedly targeted ships in the Red Sea, saying they were avenging Israel’s offensive in Gaza against Hamas. “The most dangerous thing is what the Americans did in the Red Sea, (it) will harm the security of all maritime navigation,” Nasrallah said. However, U.S. sailors have received combat ribbons for their actions in the Red Sea — something handed out only to those who face active hostilities with an enemy force.

Tensions in the Red Sea have been increasing for weeks, culminating in air strikes from the U.S. and its allies on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen early Friday local time. What Has Been Happening in the Red Sea? As of Thursday, the Houthis have launched 27 attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden that they claim were linked to Israel. Reactions to the Air StrikesThe Houthis vowed to keep attacking ships in the Red Sea after the airstrikes. Container shipping company Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc told the Financial Times that re-establishing safe passage through the Red Sea could take months.

The warning came as Yemen’s Houthis vowed retaliation, further raising the prospect of a wider conflict in a region already beset by Israel's war in Gaza. The U.S.-led bombardment came in response to a recent campaign of drone and missile attacks on commercial ships in the vital Red Sea. Since November, the rebels have repeatedly targeted ships in the Red Sea, saying they were avenging Israel's offensive in Gaza against Hamas. The Houthis’ military spokesman, Brig. Tesla, meanwhile, said it would temporarily halt most production at its German factory because of attacks in the Red Sea.

Yemen's Houthi militants on Tuesday claimed an attack against a Norwegian tanker, days after the group pledged to target Israel-bound ships of any nationality. The vessel Strinda was headed for Israel when it was "targeted with a suitable naval missile" after its crew "refused to respond to warning," Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said on social media on Tuesday. Centcom said that the Strinda reported damage that caused a fire on board, but no casualties. There were no U.S. ships in the vicinity at the time of the attack, but the country's destroyer class vessel, the USS Mason, responded to the Strinda's mayday call and rendered assistance, Centcom added. The vessel's Norwegian owner, Mowinckels Rederi, confirmed that the Strinda was hit by a missile and caught fire.

CNN —The Israeli military said Tuesday it had thwarted an aerial attack by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, as fears rise across the region that the Israel-Hamas war could widen. They have voiced support for the Palestinians and organized protests in Yemen against Israel’s offensive in Gaza. Gen. Pat Ryder said the missiles were fired by Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen and were launched “potentially toward targets in Israel.” US interceptions of Houthi launches are exceedingly rare. Hezbollah, another powerful Shia militia, and Israel have been engaged in daily skirmishes on the Israel-Lebanon border since the war began. In October, the US deployed two carrier groups to the eastern Mediterranean to deter Iran, Syria and Hezbollah from opening new fronts against Israel.

Saudi Arabia has been holding talks with the Houthis in a bid to exit the war, as Riyadh focuses on economic priorities at home. DUBAI, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi group said it launched a "large number" of drones and ballistic missiles towards Israel on Tuesday, after Israel's military said it downed an approaching "aerial target" off the Red Sea city of Eilat. The operation was the third targeting Israel and there would be more, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a televised statement. There were no reports of any missiles or drones hitting Israeli territory from the Red Sea on Tuesday. Last week, Israel accused the Houthi movement of sending drones that caused explosions in two Egyptian towns on the Red Sea, saying they were intended to strike Israel. The Pentagon said a U.S. Navy warship on Oct. 19 intercepted three cruise missiles and several drones launched by the Houthi movement from Yemen potentially toward Israel.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Yemen's Houthi rebels for the first time Tuesday claimed missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, drawing their main sponsor Iran closer into the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip and further raising the risks of a regional conflict erupting. There also has been at least one attack that the Houthis claimed where suspicion later fell fully on Iran. In 2019, cruise missiles and drones successfully penetrated Saudi Arabia and struck the heart of its oil industry in Abqaiq. While the Houthis claimed the Abqaiq attack, the U.S., Saudi Arabia and analysts blamed Iran. Iran's mission to the U.N. did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Houthi attacks.
